Community Pitch Night at Galvanize Boulder

Dream Tank to host community pitch night for social entrepreneurs ages 8-14  ~

July 28, 2017 @ Galvanize Boulder

Boulder, CO—Dream Tank is a Boulder, CO based kids social entrepreneurship accelerator and think tank – a platform to help “DreamMakers” ages 8-14 launch projects, products, and other innovations to address some of society’s most pressing challenges. Their mission is to inspire the future leaders of tomorrow to see the world as they see it, and be supported to introduce their innate wisdom into the local, and global community, using the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals as a guide. July 28th, 2017, Dream Tank’s DreamMakers are pitching their ventures following a one week long accelerator that ends with a public event and launch night where all community members are invited. Over 50 kids have participated in Dream Tank’s 4 accelerators to date and will have presented their ventures to a collective audience of approximately 200 people.

A Success Story:

9-year-old Helyn Simpson-Teplin, from Boulder, CO, joined Dream Tank’s first summer accelerator and rejoined for last week's super accelerator for returning DreamMakers. She created the "Kinetic Store" that makes energy generation fun and addresses the Sustainable Development Goal #7 (Affordable and Clean Energy). Her idea stemmed from combining her love of gymnastics and her passion towards the environment. Helyn's product aimed to capture energy created through fun activities such as jumping on a trampoline or cycling. EnergiLAB, a Colorado based company that works on similar issues and Community Cycles, a local non-profit offered her advice as well as donated equipment towards her first prototype.  Together the group, ignited by Helyn’s idea, will be seeking to find a gym in Boulder willing to power their entire gym using the kinetic energy it creates by people exercising.

Upcoming Venture:

14-year-old Griffin Craig, from Boulder, Colorado, loves video games. He wants to revolutionize the gaming experience and make it more fun. He believes kids would enjoy a platform on a gaming system beyond Minecraft where the gamer “builds as they play.” He aims to address Sustainable Development Goal #13 (Climate Action) to make gamers aware of how rapidly our world is changing due to human impact on the planet. He plans to gain insight from gamers that love computer games like Minecraft and first person games on Xbox or PS4.

Pitch Night Details:

Mission Launch, July 28st, begins at 6:00 p.m. and ends at 8:30 p.m. at Galvanize, 1023 Walnut Street, Boulder. Free admission and refreshments will be provided.
